Tunisia has initiated a training for Nigerians in tourism
development, agriculture, creative arts and environmental protection as part of
its developmental exchange programmes.
The Tunisian Ambassador to Nigeria, Dr. Hattab Haddaoui, who
said this in an interview with our correspondent on Tuesday in Abuja, explained
that Nigeria could greatly benefit from the well developed agriculture
initiatives of his country, especially curtailing desert encroachment.
According to him, agriculture is big business in Tunisia,
adding that high quality agriculture inputs like fertilisers and other chemical
components were produced by Tunisia, and exported to other countries, stressing
that the North African nation was the largest supplier of fertilisers to
Europe.
He argued that purchasing fertilisers and other agriculture
inputs from Tunisia was cheaper, and the delivery time is shorter compared to
buying from European or American countries.
Haddaoui, who is also his country’s ambassador to Cameroon,
Niger and Chad, stressed the need for Nigeria and Tunisia to develop a closer
relationship, insisting that the two countries could share expertise in
agriculture, and security, especially, terrorism issues.
He said, “Tunisia has initiated a training programme for
Nigerians in tourism, desertification, agriculture, creative arts and
environmental protection and other areas of mutual benefits between the two
countries. Agriculture is well developed in Tunisia and Nigeria can benefit a
lot from us.
