Three babies were kidnapped at different locations in
Makurdi, the Benue State capital, in the last one week.
The abducted babies, according to findings, are between the
ages of one and five years.
A relative of one of the kids, who identified herself as
Aver, told our source that they were at the Wurukum market when some
strange faces stormed the area and snatched the baby from the mother at
gunpoint.
The second abduction also happened at the same market, where
a trader was made to part with her baby at gunpoint.
It was learnt that the third child was kidnapped in the same
area but not inside the market, a development that has been causing the
people of the area sleepless nights.
A trader in the market, who spoke to our source on condition
of anonymity, stated that the situation might have been triggered by the fast
approaching yuletide.
He said, ” You know Christmas is fast approaching and such
cases of kidnapping, snatching and the likes are usually on the increase.”
The State Commissioner of Police, Mr Hyacinth Dagala,
confirmed the report but said only two babies were kidnapped, but not at
gunpoint.
