The Federal Government,
through the National Directorate of Employment, has provided N3m grant to 300
“poorest of the poor” people in six local governments areas of Ekiti State.
The beneficiary LGAs are Ado,
Ikere, Irepodun-Ifelodun, Ido-Osi, Ise-Orun and Ikole.
The grant is for them to establish
“micro (mini) enterprises” such as roasting of corn/plantain, as well as sale
of pure water, coca cola, fruits, vegetables, garri, yams and any other micro
(mini) business ventures.
In his address in Ado-Ekiti
during the disbursement, the NDE Director General, Mallam Abubakar Mohammed,
said the initiative was designed to sustain employment generation and poverty
reduction in both urban and rural areas of the federation.
Mohammed, who was represented
by the State Coordinator, Mrs. Sharafat Adeola, urged the beneficiaries,
selected by traditional rulers and community leaders in the six LGAs, to make
use of the opportunity to actualise their dreams of a humble beginning.
“I implore you to make
judicious use of the money to ensure you are self-employed,” he said.
