A member of the Board of Trustees of the All Progressives
Congress, Dr. Sam Sam Jaja has said that the party was optimistic of producing
a credible candidate that would beat President Goodluck Jonathan in 2015
elections.
He spoke at the venue of the event which also doubled as the
3rd National Convention of the party ahead of commencement of voting by about
8,000 delegates.
Jaja who is also a member of the Presidential Screening
Committee that screened the five presidential aspirants however said that the
candidate was not yet known as at the time of filing this report.
He appreciated the organizers of the convention for ensuring
a credible process and friendly atmosphere.
He said: “I think it is a well organized process. Those who
planned or organized it are very serious minded people and we want it bring
something that is novel in the annals of political developments in this
country. You can see how the delegates are comporting themselves, obeying the
directives of those who are in charge of accreditation. So, it’s quite a novel
experiment we are seeing here.
“Basically, the man whom the people have a lot of confidence
in to dethrone PDP will definitely come out. It has to do with what the party
wants. There is no imposition. There is no coarsening anybody to sell his or
her conscience. Even here, you can see there is no campaign. Everybody is calm.
But I am sure that people are already attuned to voting directly according to
their conscience.
“I wont say it is Buhari. All of them are eminently
qualified to carry the day. Those who are telling you Buhari is the man are
actually those who are supporting Buhari. If you meet supporters of Atiku
Abubakar, they will tell you Atiku is the man. If you meet supporters of
Kwankwaso, they tell you he is the man. If you meet supporters if Nda-Isaiah,
they will tell you same. If you meet supporters of Owelle Rochas Okorocha, they
will tell, Owelle is the man. But the important thing is that one of them will
definitely come out victorious and will eventually be the president of this
country.”
Asked what APC would do for Nigerians if it edges out the
PDP in the general election next year, Jaja said that corruption and insecurity
would be eradicated by an APC led government.
He remarked that the 16 years of the ruling PDP has eclipsed
the fortunes of the country just as he stated that victory for APC in the
governorship election of his home Rivers State was assured.
“What we have to do is what we are doing, appealing to the
conscience of Nigerians, making them realize that we have tested PDP for 16
years come 2015 and they have not brought anything on the table. They have not
changed the fortunes of the people of Nigeria.
“So, we are telling them that we have the Midas touch to
bring this change, change that is totally dependent on eradicating corruption.
Once corruption is eradicated, definitely every other will take a cue and we
will begin to see a well structure Nigeria that will bring in development.
“Another serious monster we have in the country is
insecurity and they have been using kid gloves to fight it, that is if they are
even fighting insecurity. They are playing a lot of politics with it which
shows they are not sincere about it. They are accusing APC of being behind the
insurgency. But we can see now that is not APC’s problem. It is Nigeria’s
problem and PDP has not being able to surmount.
“This is what we want to tell Nigerians that we definitely
have what it takes to fight Boko haram head on. We will definitely bring this
country into a peaceful situation that will attract foreign investors and we
will also encourage domestic investors and this country will move forward.
“APC is the ruling party in Rivers state now and we have not
disappointed Rivers people. They have not hidden their love love and
appreciation of what Chibuike Ameachi has done for them as a governor even
though he has distractions. But even at that, he is still focused and fighting
for rivers people. The people are in love with APC and definitely we will
Rivers state. It is a done deal”, he said.
