2 SET ABLAZE OVER MOTORCYCLE

Two men have been set ablaze by angry mob for allegedly attempting to steal a motorcycle at Akwanga Local Government Area of Nasarawa State.

ASP Ismaila Numan, the state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), who confirmed the incident, said that the thieves were allegedly set ablaze after being caught trying to snatch a motorcycle, popularly called ‘okada’ in the area.

He added that men of the divisional police command in the area responded when information reached them that the men alleged to be okada thieves were being beaten by the mob, “but before our men got to the scene of the incident, two of the criminals were already set ablaze by the angry mob while the third suspect ran away.”

According to him, “Before we could get to the scene, one among the two suspects set ablaze died, but our men were able to rescue the second one alive.”

He explained that the one who was rescued by the police died on the way to the hospital.

Numan who said the police authorities are still investigating the case, however, warned members of the public to desist from taking laws into their hands.
