AMINU MAIGARI |
The Nigeria Football Federation, NFF, elections billed for Tuesday
in Warri, Delta State, is yet to commence after over two hours after its
scheduled start time of 10am.
It was gathered that there is tension in the oil city with heavy
presence of security men in and around the election venue.
One of the reasons for the delay in the commencement of voting is
the sudden disappearance of the Electoral Committee Chairman, Samson
Ebomhe, who some say may have been ‘kidnapped’ while others stated he was
arrested by security operatives.
“I don’t know whether he was kidnapped or arrested, all I can say
is that he is nowhere to be found and that has temporarily
stalled proceedings here,” one of the delegates confided in our Source.
Also the duo of Aminu Maigari and Musa Amadu, the outgoing
president and scribe of the NFF have gone underground, further heightening
the uncertainties around Tuesday’s election.
Messrs Maigari and Amadu are supposed to facilitate the election
process.
While the uncertainties linger, aspirants are going on with
intense lobbying as huge sums of money are reported to have exchanged
hands for assurances of votes.
Headlining Tuesday’s polls is the Presidential votes where
seven candidates were cleared to run.
Those chasing the top spot in the Glass House are, Ogunjobi
Taiwo Joseph (Osun State), Yola Abba Abdullahi (Kano State), Mike Umeh
(Anambra State), Pinnick Amaju Melvin (Delta State), Iorfa Mtem Dominic
(Benue State), Dikko Shehu (Kaduna State) and Amanze U. Uchegbulam (Imo
State).
