Military shoots, 6 Injured In Okpella, Edo State

In the early hours of yesterday (Monday), some youths from Okpella, Edo State, embarked on what seems to be a peaceful protest due to lack of employment.

According to the report I got, on reaching to the venue where they were caring out the protest, the youths turned violent and destroyed some valuable items belonging to the Edo Cement Factory.

On this regard it was learnt that the King, HRH, Alhaji A.Y.E Dirisu, the Okuokpellagbe of Okpella odered the military to descend on them. Carrying such order, the men of the Nigeria Army lynched the boys, shooting sparodically and leaving about six (6) injured with bullet wounds.

It is pertinent to know that this is the hometown of Ahmodu Shuaibu, former Nigeria Super Eagles boss.

Okpella is a community in Etsako East Local Government Area of Edo state blessed with mineral resources such as lime stones sharing a boundary with Okene-Kogi State where the old Bendel Cement Company now Edo State Cement Factory is located. Apart from the ESC Factory, you'll find also in Okpella companies like Julius Berger Nigeria Plc etc. yet no good roads, no employment.

Currently curfew has been imposed on the members of the community as they cry out to the government to come to their aid.
