The Anglican Communion has again advised Nigerians to
shun same sex marriage , saying lesbianism and gay practice should not be
encouraged in the country.
Speaking in Port Harcourt, ahead of the third session,
second synod of the Diocese of Evo , Province of Niger Delta, Bishop of the
Diocese, Rt Reverend Innocent Ordu, said the church would continue to speak
against such marriage , stressing that “it is unbiblical.”
According to him, “Church of Nigeria is part of the global
Anglican Community. We are a biblically-based church. There are certain things
even our culture abhors. Homosexuality is against the scriptures. We cannot be
party to any doctrine that is against the scripture. We have looked at the
Bible. Bible abhors it; we cannot be part of it.”
He enjoined the political class to provide the right
leadership for Nigeria, noting that it was time the nation overcame challenges
of insecurity, corruption and other related vices.
Bishop Ordu said the synod, slated for July 29 to August 2,
had the theme “Recapturing the spirit of excellence and integrity in
service: The Daniel example.”
He also urged President Muhammadu Buhari not to dump the
report of the last National Conference.
