Tragedy was averted in Aba, Abia State, Friday, as over 25
newspaper readers escaped death when a truck’s brake failed, crushed a tricycle
and crashed into a fashion shop at MCC Junction, along Aba-Owerri Road.
According to an eyewitness, the truck was coming from
Osisioma Ngwa end of the road, lost control and almost hit readers at a
newspaper stand, destroying a tricycle and the fashion shop.
An eyewitness said: “When we saw the truck coming towards
us, people started shouting that the truck may have lost its brake.
“There were over 25 people at the newspaper stand. Although
they all fled to safety, it is only by the grace of God that it did not hit the
newspaper stand. No fewer than 20 people would have lost their lives.
“The people in the tricycle only sustained minor injuries
and were rescued.”
Although the owner of the shop, where the truck crashed into
was trapped inside, but was rescued unhurt.
